Piccolo Spoleto needs your help going green with this through-the-decades themed block party, produced by the talented Office of Cultural Affairs interns. Entertainment will range from an 80’s cover band and break dancers to local performers playing today’s music and includes performances by Quiana Parler & Friends, Bueller, and Spaced Invaders. This event will also take you through the 80’s to today while highlighting how far we have come through the last few years environmentally. Step out on our “green carpet” dressed in your favorite 80’s or 90’s attire or get creative and make an outfit out of recycled materials. This free event promises to bring out the next generation of “green” Piccolo Spoleto enthusiasts to party through the decades into a “greener” tomorrow.

As if DJs didn’t have it bad enough with people confusing us with Juke Boxes. Activision, the people who brought you Guitar Hero, are now planning to release, DJ Hero. Yep, our art is now being reduced to a push button kid game. It’s rumored to be out this fall. Other than that I have no idea how it’s supposed to work or what the heck those three buttons on the vinyl are for. Anyway, here are the renderings for the controller. Right now Joystiq is trying to confirm that these are legit.
This was the first track that started playing when I turned on iTunes this morning. This San Francisco based funk band produced an awesome album “This Is The Beginning” and it completely slipped through the cracks. I wouldn’t classify these cats as “funk,” I’d say they are more a psych-soul band sort of like Sly and the Family Stone. This is the Beginning is packed full of horns, drum breaks and acid filled guitar riffs and solos, it’s perfect for those who love good funk music, for DJs who want some good floor heaters, and for the producers looking to sample something. In fact, I’m surprised this whole album wasn’t sampled more. I guess many pressings of this album didn’t get out to the public. Anyway, here is a track from the album entitled Mirage.
A stellar example of some early Detroit funk! To get the full story on the Fabulous Counts you can go here. But I just wanted to give you something good to start your hump day with.
